There are examples of many modes of teaching and learning currently occurring at, or from, this university. Many new possibilities are emerging. There is much to learn about such alternatives particularly as students start to demand more flexibility in the learning environment. The broad issue of modes of delivery of teaching and the consequent nature of the learning environment provided needs revisiting.

ALTMODES Brochure

This web page allows you to explore a range of alternative modes of teaching and learning through modes, tools and examples. Links between each of these are suggested by placing the mouse over the highlighted text.

  • modes
    • Alternative modes of delivery offer examples which provide learners with greater flexibility of access to learning opportunities, allowing choice over the time, pace and/or place of learning.
    • By contrast, alternative modes to delivery offer examples which provide learners with greater control over the content and meaning of what they are learning and in some cases over the processes by which they learn.
  • tools
    • Tools for supporting teaching and learning - offer examples of a range of technologies which can be used in order to support the range of alternative modes described.
  • examples
    • Examples - offers UWA-based examples of how new technology is being used in order to support alternative modes of teaching and learning.

The listing of examples under each of these categories is not meant to be exhaustive and neither are the categories themselves 'watertight'. Experiential learning could well form part of a distance education programme, just as Computer-based teaching (CBT) can be designed according to discovery learning principles.
