Tools for supporting teaching and learning

| uwa | csd | altmodes: modes - tools - examples |

'Modes of delivery of teaching' are influenced by the affordances of the technologies used.

What is an affordance? An affordance is a use that a tool or technology allows. Those affordances that are easy are likely to get done. Those that are harder are less likely. (Norman, 1993)

Norman, D. A. (1993). Things that make us smart : defending human attributes in the age of the machine. Reading, Mass: Addison-Wesley.

We suggest that tools to support teaching and learning can afford one or more of the following uses:

Monologic Tools - specifically designed to facilitate one way communication

Dialogic Tools - specifically designed to facilitate two way communication

Meta Tools - specifically designed to facilitate the creation of other tools
