Inaugural Council Meeting, Oxford, England, 1993ICED was formed at a meeting in Oxford, England, in 1993 with initial financial support from British Telecom. Council Meeting, Rugby, England, 1995The second international meeting was held in Rugby, England in 1995 and was attended by the presidents, or their representatives, of educational development networks from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, UK, and USA. Council Meeting and Conference, Vasa, Finland, 1996The third meeting was held, with the first ICED Conference, in Vasa, Finland, in June 1996. Networks from Australasia, Belgium, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, and USA were present, and expressions of interest and support were received from Canada, Denmark, France, South Africa and Spain. The Conference was entitled "Preparing University Teachers" and was organised by ICED Convenor Graham Gibbs and Rainer Nyberg of the Finnish University, with 75 participants attending from across the world. The Keynote speaker was Bill McKeachie, author of the long-time best-selling "Teaching Tips". In a series of small seminars and workshops, the conference heard and discussed a wide range of good practices and policies for training new university teachers and graduate teaching assistants. Council Meeting and Workshop, Banbury, England, 1997The fourth meeting was held, together with an international workshop, at Wroxton Abbey, Banbury, England, in April 1997. Presidents, or their representatives, from networks in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK, and USA attended the meeting. The workshop, "Using Teaching Portfolios in Educational Development", provided an opportunity for experienced educational developers in higher education to share, experience and develop practice in using teaching portfolios. Workshop facilitators were Graham Gibbs and Peter Seldin, author of "The Teaching Portfolio: A Practical Guide to Improved Performance and Promotion and Tenure Decisions". Council Meeting and Conference, Texas, USA, 1998The fifth meeting of the Consortium was held with the second ICED conference, in Austin, Texas, USA in April 1998. Presidents, or their representatives, from networks in Australasia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, UK, and USA attended the meeting. The title of the international conference was "Supporting Educational, Faculty and TA Development within Departments and Disciplines". It was organised by Karron Lewis of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness at the University of Texas at Austin. Keynote speakers were Uri Treisman, professor of mathematics and Director of the Charles A. Dana Center for Education Innovation at the University of Texas at Austin, and Phil Candy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Scholarship) at the University of Bellarat, Victoria, Australia. Over 200 participants from 20 countries across the world discussed a range of strategies for educational development within subject areas. Council Meeting and Workshop, Maastricht, The Netherlands, 1999The sixth international meeting was held, together with an international workshop, at the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands, in April 1999. Presidents, or their representatives, from networks in Australasia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK, and USA and emergent networks in Croatia and Spain attended the meeting. The meeting was organised by Peter Bouhuijs of the University of Maastricht who also facilitated a workshop, "Problem-Based Learning", that provided an opportunity for educational developers to share their experiences of problem-based learning. Council Meeting and Conference, Bielefeld, Germany, 2000Over 100 participants from 21 countries attended this third ICED conference which was organised by Wolff-Dietrich Webler of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Research and Development in Higher Education, Bielefeld University. The seventh meeting of the ICED Council was held with the conference. Presidents, or their representatives, from networks in Australasia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK, and USA and emergent networks in Croatia, Spain and Sri Lanka attended the meeting. Council Meeting and Workshop, Madrid, Spain, 2001The eighth international meeting was held, together with an international workshop, in Cercedilla, outside Madrid, in July 2001. The meeting was organised by Carmen Vizcarro Guarch of the Spanish Network, Red Estatal de Docencia Universitaria. Presidents, or their representatives, from networks in Australasia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, UK, and an emergent network in Sri Lanka attended the meeting. Two workshops were held in conjunction with the meeting: Peter Bouhuijs of the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands) facilitated "Developing Ideas for International Collaboration" and David Baume of the Open University (UK) facilitated "Educational Development - Commonalities and Differences." |
