Spheres of Influence:
Ventures
and Visions in
Educational Development
Preface
The papers in Spheres of Influence: Ventures and Visions in Educational Development were accepted for publication from papers submitted by delegates to the 4th World Conference of the International Consortium for Educational Development (ICED).
All delegates to the 2002 ICED conference had the opportunity to submit a full paper for refereeing and, upon acceptance, to be published in Spheres of Influence: Ventures and Visions in Educational Development. Full papers were subjected to a double blind peer-review process and each paper was reviewed by at least two referees, from Australia and internationally. The papers were reviewed according to criteria including clarity, coherence and organisation of writing, relevance to the conference theme, presentation of current thinking, research, policy and/or practice, appropriate application of research methodology and/or conceptual framework and contribution to scholarship and/or new or innovative practice in higher education. We have listed all the referees and acknowledge their contributions.
The papers reflect the broad scope of activities in which educational developers are engaged and reflect current practice and research in educational development internationally. Topics addressed include student learning and skill development, curriculum development processes, teaching and learning, communication and information technology in teaching and learning and educational development, teaching portfolios, teaching workshops and educational development.
The publication is international with contributions from Africa, Scandinavia, North America, the United Kingdom and Australia. The papers are presented alphabetically by first author surname. The publication is only available online. In the editing process, we maintained the character and intent of the papers but made some modifications for style, grammar and format. Authors chose their own referencing style.
We hope that you find these papers stimulating and that your own practice benefits from the work that the authors have shared.
