Organisational and Staff Development Services (OSDS), comprising the Centre for Staff Development (CSD), the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) and the Evaluation of Teaching Unit (ETU), is a proactive service designed to facilitate the lifelong learning of every UWA staff member through high quality workshops, integrated programmes, consultancies and the development of supportive resources . Staff at OSDS are committed to the goal of identifying ongoing developmental needs and supporting these through high quality workshops, integrated programmes, consultancies and the development of supportive resources. Weaim to reflect current best practice to provide good quality support to both academic and professional staff at all levels through current best practice. We are in the process of finalizing a Developmental Framework to enable better support of new and established staff across the University. This programme reflects elements of that framework in that it explores the various types of experience people may encounter as UWA employees. It will also be noticed that t There is an increasing recognition of researchers this semester in the material offered here. This reflects the changing profile of UWA, and the recognition of the specific needs of this group.
Our programmes are guided by feedback from a range of sources, including the Teaching and Learning Committee, the Staff Development Reference Group, the Raising Researchers Advisory Group, the Advisory Group on General Staff Development and key stakeholders. We will continue to use feedback from these sources to identify key strategic priorities which should be profiled to support the University and its staff. This semester, the key priorities so identified relate toare leadership and teams.
While OSDS provides a range of programmes using OSDS staff, it also draws on the expertise to be found throughout the University. Local experts contribute greatly to the programmes and ensure they are relevant and realistic – particularly in specialized areas, such as research, administrative processes and some aspects of teaching and learning. We are fortunate to have such willing and capable contributors across the University and thank them for their continued involvement. Many workshops featuredon the OSDS website and programme are provided through specialist services found within the University. A range of expert consultantsis also contracted to provide further support in more specialized areas.
The building of communities of practice within the University is an increasingly important priority for the future so that knowledge can be shared across units and faculties, researchers and people with similar interests. The use of CATLysts has been a successful model in sharing knowledge and raising awareness about strategic issues in teaching and learning across faculties. The Leadership Development for Women (LDW) programme also encourages professional and personal development, networking and support across the University. This is an area OSDS will be exploring over the coming semester to encourage further learning networks within, and across, the University.
While the programmes presented herefound in this brochure are likely to address the more general needs of the University community, we also provide consultancy services to support the more specialized needs of groups of ten or more. Please contact OSDS if more specific support or advice is required.
